Australia’s only international fashion event, MBFWA will welcome more than 25,000 global visitors to Sydney over five days for designers’ Resort 2021 collections.

The Mercedes-Benz Presents: 25 Years of Australian Fashion show will be held on Monday, 11 May, at Carriageworks, and for the first time, an encore presentation will provide consumers an opportunity to purchase tickets to the week’s premier headline event. Creative Director Tony Assness has been engaged to oversee the show produced by FOCUS, IMG’s full-service creative and event production company.

“We are excited to commemorate this monumental occasion with a spectacular tribute to the Australian fashion industry at MBFWA’s marquee event, Mercedes-Benz Presents, with a show that will celebrate the past, present and future of Australian fashion,” commented Natalie Xenita, Executive Director of IMG’s fashion events group, Asia-Pacific region.

Tony Assness commented, “I am super excited to be directing this landmark show – it is a moment to celebrate what has been and what is emerging – to present a deeper understanding of what Australian fashion is – Mercedes-Benz Presents: 25 Years of Australian Fashion will take the essence of Australian fashion design and amplify it in the most powerful way, thrilling everyone who sees it. Our designers, models, artisans, manufacturers and the thousands of others who work in this industry deserve nothing less.”

Horst von Sanden, CEO and Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific, said, “The opportunities provided by Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia have launched many talented individuals and brands onto the world stage. We’re all looking forward to an exciting show in 2020 that will star some of the great names of the past 25 years and remind everyone what an accomplished fashion industry we have here in Australia.”

MBFWA: The Experience will integrate consumers at each evening’s show and provide access to select designer shows, seminars and special events during the week-long event. Tigerlily and Ginger & Smart will present their collections on Tuesday and Wednesday evening respectively, and Steven Khalil will stage the closing show on Friday, 15 May. Thursday’s show will be announced closer to the event. MBFWA: The Experience is powered by Endeavor’s experience business, the VIP experience arm of entertainment conglomerate Endeavor.

“Proudly celebrating our 20-year milestone this year, we’re excited to announce Tigerlily’s showcase at MBFWA. Designer, Lesleigh Jermanus, will debut her Resort ‘21 collection and our new approach to sustainable ready-to-wear. Lesleigh has a remarkable ability to simplify complex design into effortless ready-to-wear pieces, and promises an eclectic yet fresh take to design for the season,” commented Chris Buchanan, CEO of Tigerlily.

Alexandra and Genevieve Smart, co-founders of Ginger & Smart commented, “We are proud to be back on the schedule at MBFWA to celebrate 25 years, and also to be part of the innovative new strategy to open the doors to our valued customers. As fashion innovators and sustainability advocates, this new fashion model feels relevant and exciting.”

Designer Steven Khalil said, “To be returning to MBFWA at such a time is exciting and will provide a new experience for consumers and media alike. With the celebration of 25 years for both MBFWA and my own design history I feel there is an appropriate synergy for the event this year. I am very much looking forward to being the closing night designer, and also to share a new chapter for my brand with both existing and new clients.”

Shreveport, LA (November 15, 2019) – Just one month after the conclusion of a record-breaking 2019 festival season, the ninth annual Louisiana Film Prize has officially opened registration for 2020. The northwest Louisiana-based short film competition hosted over 5,000 attendees from across the world during the first weekend in October, where the grand prize winner was awarded $50,000 – the largest cash prize for a narrative short film in the world.

“There was so much excitement surrounding the competition in 2019 that we wanted to open registration immediately to capitalize on that energy,” said Gregory Kallenberg, founder and executive director of the Film Prize Foundation. “With finalists last year coming from across the country, as well as Australia and London, we also want to ensure that filmmakers have as much time as possible to complete their films.”

Registration is now open to all filmmakers at lafilmprize.com. Filmmakers interested in participating can register their projects online and create an original, narrative short film in the designated filming zone in northwest Louisiana. While production must take place in northwest Louisiana, pre- and post-production work may occur in any location. Rough cuts are due on July 14, 2020. The top twenty films, as selected by an international panel of judges, will be shown during the Louisiana Film Prize in Shreveport October 1-3, 2020.

The Louisiana Film Prize is a part of Film Prize Foundation, a non-profit organization that also hosts the Louisiana Food Prize, Louisiana Music Prize, Louisiana Startup Prize, and Film Prize Jr. competitions. The goal of the organization is to educate, energize, and incentivize the local creative community while stimulating the northwest Louisiana economy.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Style

0

Steam things up a little extra this Valentine’s Day with sexy, red hot swim to suit all your hot tub needs! Because is it really a getaway if it doesn’t have a hot tub? From scarlet to crimson, there really is no other color quite like the shade of red. It’s the color of passion, love and adventure. It’s symbolism arises from powerful associations of the past, and so, of course, associates perfectly with powerful women in the present.

CES 2020: Back to The Future

Las Vegas, January 7-10. 2020

It felt pretty much like the Olympic Games with the whole world meeting you. The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) became a truly international event hosting thousands of people and tech companies from around the world. There were numerous startups and big companies like Facebook, Huawei and Toyota presented there. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any big Russian brands but there were so many products that impressed me anyway.

Mercedes-Benz AVTR car

The car of the future is inspired by the Avatar movie. It shows a new concept of connection between a car and a human being: made from recycled materials with no side mirrors or a steering wheel, the car also has a compact high-voltage battery. The car’s design will make you have a back to the future moment.

Huawei phones

The new generation foldable phones can convert to a full screen tablet. Huawei also got the best electronic watches so far: they seem to be elegant and affordable.

Brunswick luxury boats

This year Brunswick introduced new SLX-R 400e that impressed me a lot. It has a newly designed and modern navigation system that would easily allow you to pilot the boat during nighttime.

Canon “Fashion Week” during CES 2020

Imagine hundreds of best companies showcasing their new electronics: robots, “smart” self-driving cars and folding phones, artificial intelligence etc. Imagine thousands of people from around the world browsing, checking for new technologies, trying new products. Everyone got his own “back to the future” moment called CES, the world’s largest tech event.

For me, one of the events to remember was an amazing fashion runway show presented by Canon. Everyone had a chance to test one of new Canon cameras right away shooting the runway show. The cameras were located all around the stage, so visitors could choose and try any of them any time.

New beard oil fit for Santa

Seaweed cosmetics entrepreneur Ben Oakes with his body and lip balm productsSeaweed cosmetics entrepreneur Ben Oakes with his body and lip balm products

A Skye seaweed cosmetics entrepreneur has expanded his range of skincare products with the launch of a new beard oil and wax – just in time for Santa as he prepares for his busiest night of the year.

Ben Oakes, a former student at Scotland’s Rural College, set up the Isle of Skye Seaweed Company two years ago, making natural skincare products using locally harvested seaweed and coconut oil.

Now he is adding to his range of lip, hand and body balms, with a black pepper and vanilla-scented beard oil and complementary wax called After the Storm

Created to stand up to Skye’s often harsh and ever-changing weather, the oil is perfect for Santa as he flies through the night delivering gifts.

Beard and oil wax

“My seaweed infused oil and wax have been a long time coming and I am so happy with the results,” said Ben. “The combination of the coconut and jojoba oils has created something that’s great for a beard and the skin underneath, together with a fantastic musk.”

With his passion for all things marine, launching a range of beard care products was a natural next step for the bearded Ben.

His appreciation of the natural environment – which originated from his upbringing on Skye – increased while studying for a degree in Sustainable Environmental Management at SRUC in Edinburgh.

Returning to his island home, he did an apprenticeship in sustainable scallop cultivation before coming up with the idea for his seaweed cosmetics company.

Two years later, having been granted a licence from Crown Estate Scotland proving his hand-cutting method is sustainable, he set to work creating his line of cosmetics.

“Working daily in the marine environment became a true passion of mine,” he said.

“Each day varies totally from one to the next. One day I’ll be at sea and the next I could be in the seaweed workshop or at my desk doing paperwork.

“You can also find me on the shore cutting seaweed or doing presentations at schools or with community groups. I take every chance I can to advocate sustainable fishing practices and educate on why it’s important to protect our seas.”

L’Osier Awarded Three Stars in Michelin Guide Tokyo 2020

0

L’Osier (Ginza, Tokyo), the French restaurant run by Shiseido Company, Limited (“Shiseido”), has been awarded three stars, which is the highest honor given to a restaurant serving “exceptional cuisine that is worth a special journey” to visit, for the second consecutive year in the Michelin Guide Tokyo 2020, published on Tuesday, November 26, 2019.

The French restaurant L’Osier started business in 1973 and was named after the French word for “willow,” which has a deep connection with Ginza. In realizing the Shiseido group’s corporate mission to “inspire a life of beauty and culture” through authentic French cuisine, L’Osier embodies a rich and mature culture and is a symbol of the Shiseido brand, aiming to achieve top quality in all areas of food, service, and dining space.
Designed with five key elements of “white,” “gold,” “clearness,” “glass,” and “light,” the restaurant features a dynamic space integrated with a nine-meter-high atrium, offering customers a luxury dining experience in an open and relaxed environment.
Executive chef Olivier Chaignon creates the current cuisine of L’Osier with his innovative ideas and techniques while preserving the restaurant’s traditions and the essence of French cuisine. He selects the best ingredients from not only Japan but also Europe to create an exquisite harmony of delicate taste and texture, using new combinations of ingredients created with his unique sensitivity.
In May 2019, Toshifumi Nakamoto, our chef sommelier, received a Medal with Yellow Ribbon. L’Osier is highly acclaimed by many customers both in Japan and abroad for not only its cuisine and space but also its meticulous attention to detail in hospitality.

Shiseido’s restaurant business

Shiseido started business in Ginza, Tokyo in 1872 as the first Western-style pharmacy in Japan. The founder, Arinobu Fukuhara, installed a soda fountain in a section of the Shiseido pharmacy in 1902 to manufacture and sell the country’s first soda water as well as ice cream, a rare delicacy at the time, inspired by the drug stores he had visited in the U.S. on the way back from the World Exposition in Paris in 1900. In 1928, the company opened Shiseido Parlour, which served authentic Western cuisine. As one of the pioneers of Western culinary experiences as well as a symbol of Ginza, the restaurant continues to propose new values to many customers and strive to embody the Shiseido’s mission of “inspiring a life of beauty and culture” from the field of food.
L’Osier opened its door inside the former Shiseido Parlour Building (now Tokyo Ginza Shiseido Building) on Ginza Chuo-dori Avenue in 1973 as an authentic French restaurant. Since 1999, the restaurant is located in the Shiseido headquarters building on Ginza Namiki-dori Street, bringing the atmosphere of Paris to the street. Celebrating its 40th anniversary in October 2013, the restaurant reopened with new executive chef Olivier Chaignon after being closed for renovation. L’Osier is a highly acclaimed fine-dining restaurant that offers a truly wonderful experience to its customers in Japan and abroad.
